Father of murdered baby sentenced July 2, 2004 Marvin A. Alvizurez, who admitted having sex with a girl beginning when she was 12, and to fathering a baby whom the girl murdered last fall, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison. Alvizurez, 22, must serve at least eight years in prison for first-degree criminal sexual conduct before he is eligible for release under the sentence imposed by Ramsey County District Judge Teresa Warner. An illegal immigrant from Guatemala, Alvizurez told police he had been living with the girl's family on St. Paul's East Side. Police said it did not appear Alvizurez helped the girl kill the baby, but he apparently knew that she was pregnant. The girl, who was 14 years old and in the eighth grade at the time, gave birth to a girl in her bedroom on Oct. 2. Authorities said she strangled the baby and hid her body in a shoebox under her bed. Under her sentence in Juvenile Court, she will remain in custody until her 19th birthday. Paul Gustafson www.startribune.com
