Canadian man sentenced for sex involving teen July 12, 2004, 12:54 PM EDT SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Canadian man will spend nearly five years in prison on a federal charge that he traveled to the United States to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. Bruce R. Burns, 46, of Ottawa was arrested Nov. 14 in Detroit while on his way to meet the girl, who had moved from New York to Texas. Federal prosecutors accused Burns of having sex with her while she lived in St. Lawrence County and during a trip to Onondaga County. Burns was sentenced by a federal judge on Friday to 57 months in prison and five years supervised release. He also is subject to deportation from the United States. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher has said the two interacted through the Internet but she would not say where or how they met. www.newsday.com
