Man convicted of 5 rapes near Rutgers University Associated Press NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A man was convicted of raping four women and a 14-year-old girl - the daughter of one of the victims - in attacks near Rutgers University. Ricardo Cepates, 33, was convicted Tuesday of 26 counts of kidnapping, rape and robbery. Police used DNA evidence to link him to the five rapes from September 2001 to June 2003. The victims testified that they were grabbed and threatened with a knife or, in one case, a broken beer bottle, while walking in a working-class neighborhood near the Rutgers campus. Two of the victims were Rutgers students, one of whom said she was savagely beaten and suffered a broken jaw and cheekbone. Cepates, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, faces life in prison without parole when he is sentenced in February. His lawyer said he would likely appeal.
